SEATTLE -- The George Fox track and field team may have only sent six competitors to the University of Washington's Husky Classic, but that didn't stop the results from coming in — the Bruins set two program records over the two-day meet.
How It Happened
Ellie RIsing kicked things off for the Bruins with a record-setting run in the 800m. Rising's time of 2:12.03 beat the former record, set by
Jessie Bailey in 2022, by six seconds; the sophomore's time was also good enough for 30th place in the event.
Trevor Wilber competed in the event for the men, just missing the record books with his time of 1:59.30.
Brenna Sclair broke yet another record for the Bruins, beating Jill Beals' long-standing record in the mile. Sclair's time of 5:00.05 eclipsed Beal's record time of 5:04.74, set in 1989.
The Bruins concluded the meet with three women appearing in the pole vault —
Alison Young,
Payton Davidson, and
Grace Tully. Young, the current record holder for indoor pole vault, just missed on breaking her own mark with her height of 11-11.25. Young placed sixth in the event, while Davidson and Tully finished eighth and ninth, respectively.
Coach's Thoughts
"We had a very small contingent head up to UW to mix it up with some big D1 and D2 schools and came away with a couple of school records and national caliber performances," Bruin head coach
John Smith said, "Ellie and Brenna started right where they left off with the championship cross country season for GFU, and it looks like we will be continuing to rewrite the history books."
Up Next
The Bruins return to Newberg for their second and final home indoor meet on Friday, Feb. 17. The meet is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm.
