NORTH PLAINS, Ore. -- The George Fox men's golf team finished their weekend at the Pacific Invite with a third-place effort of 576 (+8) as the team ramped up for NWC Fall Classic play.
Top Performances
On day two,
Eli Harrell was able to even out the score with 40 (+4) on the front and an overall of 77 (+6), totaling two birdies on the second day to finish in 15th place.
Truman Fletcher, meanwhile, had a clean comeback after a down day one with a 34 (-2) on the front nine, rounding out to 73 (+2) overall with eight bogeys and nine birdies.Â
Keeping his score in good shape,
Ian Powers had a brilliant stretch of four birdies in five holes on the back nine (where he began in a shotgun start), finishing his day with a 73 (+2) to end his tournament in 31st.
Joel Martinez Jr. recovered well from his day one as well, with 37 (+1) on the front nine and a 72 (+1) overall , beating his score from day one by six strokes to finish in 38th place.
Luke Powell rounded out the first Bruin team with a score of 77 (+6) to place 31st overall in a tie with Powers.
For the "B" team,
Blake Johnston kept his day two score below his day one, with 41 (+5) on the front, and a 76 (+5) overall—including a three birdies in six holes stretch to end in 51st.
Christian Chacon and
Ian MacArthur each tied for 64th overall, while
Otto Klein had a standout moment for the team with an eagle on the par-five eighth hole.
As a team, the Bruins finished in third place overall with a score of 576 (+8), shooting a 295 (+11) on day two. Willamette won the tournament with a 562 (-6), while Whitman's Mason Remington finished as medalist.
Coach's Thoughts
"It was good to see the guys get a top three and lead the field in birdies," Bruin head coach
Caleb Fernandez said, "We got some really good momentum heading into the first conference event."

The George Fox men's golf team will play next at the NWC Fall Classic, hosted by Lewis & Clark in Lake Oswego, Ore. The first day is scheduled for Sunday, October 12—the start times are to be announced.
