Truman Fletcher Swings the Club

Harrell Places Fourth, Bruins Third in Tualatin

TUALATIN, Ore. -- The George Fox men's golf team placed third overall on day two of the Orange and Black Invitational, scoring 605 (+29) as they returned to competition in the fall. 

Top Performances
First up was Eli Harrell, scoring a 36 (-1) on the front nine and finishing with a 70 (-2) on the back nine, with five birdies total, cleaning out the last half. Thanks to his standout second day, Harrell shot up the ranks to finish fourth overall with a score of 148 (+4).

Next was Luke Powell with also a 36 (-1) on the front half, and stroking an even par with a score of 72 (E) thanks to five birdies overall. Powell ended his first tournament with the Bruins in eighth place with a score of 150 (+6).

One spot behind Powell in ninth place was Joel Martinez, who cleaned up on day two as well—scoring 38 (+1) on the front nine, and 35 (E) on the back nine, coming to a total of 73 (+1) for the day with three birdies . Meanwhile, Truman Fletcher was next, starting the first nine with a few bogeys—42 (+5), but sweeping up in an overall score of 78 (+6) with two birdies on the back nine. 

Both Fletcher and junior Ian Powers tied in 21st place; Powers layered the bogeys in a 42 (+5) front nine, ending the last half with a total of 81 (+9) and a solid number of four birdies. 

Four Bruins competed on the George Fox "B" Team — Christian Chacon, Blake Johnston, Ian MacArthur, and Otto Klein. Chacon finished 26th after a round two 76 (+4), while Johnston and MacArthur tied for 32nd, with Johnston shooting an 80 (+8) and MacArthur shooting an 86 (+14). Klein rounded out the Bruins with an 89 (+17).

The men kept their footing for third place, finishing with a 293 (+5) overall. Whitman won the tournament overall, shooting a 589 (+13), while Lewis & Clark's Charlie Hageman shot a 144 (E) to finish as medalist.

Coach's Thoughts
"It was a pretty good start to the season, all things considered, with a young team," Bruin head coach Caleb Fernandez said, "We had a really good day two, which is encouraging. If we can put together two of those round going forward then I like our chances on any given weekend."

What Happens Next
Fox will go to DuPont, Wash., attempting to beat their third place mark at the PLU Invitational on Monday, September 29.
