Gordon scored 22 points, 18 in the first half, along with
nine rebounds and six steals as the George Fox University Bruins
opened the 2009-10 season with their 33rd win in a row, a 74-41
rout of the Corban College Warriors, in a non-conference women's
basketball game Tuesday night here at the C.E. Jeffers Sports
Center.
George Fox went 32-0 last season in capturing the NCAA Division
III National Championship. Corban was playing its third game
of the season and dropped to 0-3.
Gordon scored the first two points of the game on a pair of free
throws before the Warriors tied it on a jumper by Monique
Tribble. The Bruins then reeled off 15 unanswered points to
take a 17-2 lead eight minutes into the contest, Gordon scoring 11
in that run, including a trio of three-pointers. Katie
Steigleman ended the Bruins' streak with a jumper at the 12:08
mark, and later added two free throws with 8:56 left in the half to
get the Warriors within 10 at 20-10. They would get no
closer, however, as the Bruins held the home team scoreless the
rest of the period while scoring 13 in a row to take a 33-10
advantage into the break.
Tribble hit a basket three minutes into the second half as
Corban got back within 17 points at 43-26 before George Fox began
pulling away again. The Bruins took their largest lead of 33
points with four minutes remaining when Breezy Rinehart-Young hit a
pair of free throws to make it 66-33.
Gordon hit 7-13 from the field, including 4-6 on threes, and all
four of her free throws for her big night. Lindsay Keener
added a career-high 11 points while passing out a game-high four
assists. Samantha Simmons scored her career high of eight
points, hitting 4-5 from the field, while 6-5 rookie center Hannah
Munger had seven points on 2-2 from the floor and 3-3 from the
line. Arianna Mohsenian equaled Gordon with nine rebounds,
enabling the Bruins to control the boards 52-38. The Bruins
shot .426 from the field (26-61) while holding the Warriors to a
.228 mark (13-57).
Steigleman was the only Warrior in double digits with 12 points
and had a team-leading three assists. Jennesa Miller led the
Warriors on the glass with five rebounds.
