Bruins Kick Indoor Season Into Gear With Several All-Time Marks

NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox track and field team hosted their first indoor meet of the season, crushing the competition this weekend with many PRs on the day and several new marks on the all-time list.

Top Performers
The first track event after prelims was the Men's 60m Hurdles as Blake Smith finished in first place with a PR time of 8.40 seconds—a massive PR of 0.77 milliseconds. Smith's time was good for second all-time in GFU Indoor History. 

The Women's 60m Hurdles started shortly after, with Senior Ayahna Bahati putting her own name in the record books Bahati finished in second place with a PR time of 9.25 seconds, improving her standing in the all-time marks to sixth place. Jenna Huntsman, meanwhile, finished with a time of 9.37 seconds, moving her to number nine all-time. 

In the field events, Caleb Smith placed second in the Men's High Jump at 1.85mm. In the Women's Shot Put, Ellena Corwin placed second with a strong throw at 11.54m, while Candice Mugo-Wainaina threw 11.88m in the weight throw, good 10th place all-time. Austin Imsland was also second place in the Men's Shot Put with 13.78m. 

In the Women's Pole Vault, Senior Grace Tully placed first at 3.35m, Adrianna Wilson Wilson was second place also at 3.35m, and Abby Woodruff was third at 3.20m; Wilson's mark was good for sixth all-time, while Woodruff's was number eight. 

Meanwhile, Luke Nelson continued to set records, finishing in first in the Men's Pole Vault at 4.35m — a mark good for fourth all-time. Keegan Gantala was just behind Nelson with a second place mark at 4.20m for the day, the eighth-best of all time.

Ryan Maier rounded out the records set with a 7.14 in the Men's 60m Finals.

Coach's Thoughts
"It was a fun opener and a chance to compete while we work through this high-volume training cycle," Bruin head coach John Smith said, "It was fun to watch our new athletes compete and great to see returners making big improvements early."

What Comes Next
The Bruins will be competing at the University of Portland Indoor #2 this Sunday, February 9th in Portland, Ore.
