Kristen (Shielee) Cromie was a member of the George Fox women’s basketball team from 2005-2009. She and her teammates won the 2008-09 national championship with a perfect 32-0 record, becoming the first program west of the Rocky Mountains to win the title in NCAA DIII history. Their 2009 title was the second NCAA national championship in the school’s history and the first for any women’s program at George Fox at the NCAA level.
Cromie was named an All-American (Honorable Mention) by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association in 2008-09 and the NCAA Tournament MVP. Cromie was also named a Second Team All-American second-team, the West Region Player of the Year, and First Team West Region player by D3hoops.com. The Northwest Conference named her Player of the Year (2008-09) and First Team All-NWC.
Cromie is mentioned 12 times in the George Fox women’s basketball records. She is No. 6 all-time in career blocks, No. 6 all-time in single-season rebounds, No. 2 all-time in single-season blocks, tied for fourth and 14th all-time in single-game rebounds, tied for most blocks in a single-game, and holds the school record in career field goal percentage. She is one of two players in program history to record a triple-double.
After graduating with a degree in education from George Fox, Cromie played semi-professional basketball for Pamplona Ardoi in Spain & taught English on the side for a year. After returning from Spain, Cromie taught mathematics and coached high school basketball at Southridge HS in Beaverton, Ore., and at Staten HS in Salem, Ore. She married her husband, Jeremiah Cromie, in 2015, and now teaches math for Worthington Middle School in Worthington, Minn.
