The 2004-2005 women’s basketball team entered the season picked to finish fifth in the Northwest Conference. The Bruins would go on to exceed all expectations and set a new standard for the level of women’s basketball played at George Fox University.

The team recorded the highest finish in George Fox women’s basketball program history up to that point, achieving the feat of reaching the NCAA Division III Elite 8. The squad went 22-6 overall and 14-2 in the Northwest Conference. One of many key victories was a 17-point comeback to defeat Pacific Lutheran 60-59. The Bruins went on to become NWC champions, beating out conference rivals Whitworth and Whitman, and earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The Bruins headed into the NCAA tournament on a seven-game win streak. Then, in tournament play, they defeated Chapman University 86-55 and the College of St. Benedict 74-69 to advance to the Elite 8, where their nine-game win steak was snapped with a loss to eventual national runner-up, Randolph-Macon.
