The 1979 George Fox women’s track and field team, lead by coach Randy Winston, became the first Bruin women’s track team to win a conference or district title, taking the Women’s
Conference of Independent Colleges meet in their third season of competition. Seven Bruins placed first in the conference meet, all breaking WCIC records. The season as a whole saw ten school records broken as well as six WCIC records. The 1979 team spearheaded the way for GFU track and field success to follow, as the Bruin women’s track team has now won six consecutive NWC titles.
