The only George Fox volleyball team ever to advance to the NAIA National Tournament, the 1998 Bruins went 31-8, tying for the second-most wins in a season. Their .795 winning percentage was also the second-best in history. Ending the season ranked lath, their highest as an NAIA member, they set season records which still stand for kills (2,033), assists (1,836) and digs (2,711), and won 20 in a row from Sept. 6 - 0ct. 24, setting yet another record. The Bruins won the Northwest Conference championship for the first time with a 15-1 NWC mark. George Fox upset No. 7 Western Oregon in the NAIA Pacific Northwest Sectional in a five-set thriller in which Sharon Barnett set the record for digs (52) and tied the record for kills (32) in a match and Jennie Rennie set the assists record (8 5). Barnett was Co-MVP of the conference, All-Sectional and AII NAIA Pacific Northwest Region First Team, and NAIA Third Team All-America. Rennie was First Team AII-NWC, NAIA All-Sectional and All-Region, and honorable mention All-American. Head coach Steve Grant was named NWC Coach of the Year.
