Over a decade passed since Irene (Johnson) Martin last laced up her spikes for Fox and her induction into the Bruins' Hall of Fame, but the speedster remains the all-time leader for the Bruins in the 100m hurdles with a blistering time of 14.21. Along with her hurdles time, her name still appeared three times in the Bruins’ all-time performance lists at the time of her induction. Her decorated career included both an individual national title out of lane eight in the 100m hurdles and All-American honors in 2011, as well as 15 All-NWC performances at the Northwest Conference championship meets by finishing as a champion or top-three performer in her race.

Martin graduated from Fox with a bachelor’s degree in writing and literature, and later completed her master’s in teaching from Fox. After teaching at her childhood school, David Douglas, for six years, Martin moved to a private school in Aloha, Ore. for two years. More recently, Martin, her husband Davis, and her two sons relocated to West Linn, Ore., where she teaches at Three Rivers Charter school.
