During his time at George Fox Wendell demonstrated integrity and honesty on the track but also in the classroom. His times, victories, and accomplishments in cross country and track were at a championship level. He was an integral part of the Hall of Fame team that is already enshrined at George Fox. Wendell was a leader and was vital to the success of his teams. He won individual and team District Championships and competed at NAIA Nationals numerous times. 

Cross Country- member of the 1977 NAIA District II championship team. Wendell was a 4-year letter winner and ran 1st or 2nd his senior year.

Track & Field- Wendell competed in the triple jump, high jump, long jump, 800, 1500, steeplechase, 4 X 800 relay, and 4 X 1-mile relay. His marks in the 800, 1500, and steeplechase are still in the George Fox top 10 listings. He won the 800 and 1500 at the 1979 NAIA District II Championships and won the 1500 at the 1981 NAIA District II Championships. Wendell was a 2-time competitor in the 1500 at the NAIA National Track Championships in which he placed 8th in the country in 1979. At the time he held school records in the 800 and 1500 (outdoor), the 4 x 800 relay and 4 X 1-mile relay (outdoor), and the 880 and mile (indoor).
