Dick comes from Friendswood, Texas, where he was a ‘blue-chip recruit’ in the fall of 1964 to play football under legendary head coach Earl Craven. He was a four-year starter on both defense (nose guard) and offense (center). For a big athlete (5’11” 230 lbs), he had incredible agility and balance. (In the off-season, he impressed onlookers with double flips on the trampoline!) His kick-off distance of 50+ yards was superior to most players in the league. The GFC team chose Dick as team-captain in 1965, ‘66, and ‘67. Followers of the program thought Dick was capable of playing at the collegiate Division I level. Most considered Dick to be at the same talent level as his teammate and friend, Bob Hadlock (1996 GFU Hall of Fame, NAIA All American and pro-football draft pick - Detroit Lions).

Amazingly, all 3 years Dick played in the Oregon Collegiate Conference, he was selected by the coaches as an all-star on both offense and defense. Dick (68) and his wife, Joanna (69) reside in Mountain Home, Idaho. Dick has taught and coached football at the Idaho high school level for almost 30 years. Both Dick and Jo are avid GFU football fans and drive the 500+ miles (9 hours) each way to watch the GFU games. The Bruin Football Club  is proud of Dick Kellum’s selection, his commitment to the University and his post-graduation commitment to teaching and mentoring high school youth.
